Summary
The project goals are to identify drought-tolerant varieties of soybean (Glycine max) and pea (Pisum sativum) and to test agronomic practices mitigating the negative impacts of climate change and drought on growth, yield, and quality. Sub-objectives include genotypic and phenotypic screening to select the most drought-tolerant varieties, testing of long- and shortterm drought effects, testing benefits of inoculation with symbiotic microorganisms and use of amendments on crop tolerance to drought, evaluation of crop physiologic and morphologic response to plant-soil-microbiome interactions, and the assessment of feeding quality of yielded seeds grown under drought conditions, testing of impact on poultry growth, health, and meat quality.
