Summary

The aim of the project was to develop a method for detecting soil fungi causing root diseases of red clover, which will be carried out in a single quantitative PCR reaction. Another aim was to determine the correlation between the level of infection of red clover by fungi of the genus Fusarium and the content of mycotoxins in the above-ground part of the plant. The total microbiome of infected and uninfected red clover roots was also compared in order to determine whether the occurrence of a certain fungus does not correspond to the occurrence of other potentially harmful microorganisms. We achieved the goals using an approved methodology, a utility model and a peer-reviewed Jost article. These outputs will bring our results to the professional community, including farmers and breeders.

Planned results of the project

Nmet – Molecular detection and quantification of root pathogens Fusarium spp. (species complexes FSAMSC, FSSC and FTSC) of red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) using qPCR

Fuzit – Set of primers and probes for specific quantification of ITS fragments of ribosomal DNA of selected species complexes of the genus Fusarium in red clover

Jost – Correlation of mycotoxins (zearalenone, fumonisin, T-2/HT-2) in red clover shoots with the level of infection by Fusarium culmorum and Fusarium poae
