Summary

Camelina sativa is a promising oilseed crop used in food, feed, and bioeconomy. However, its breeding is severely limited by low genetic variability. The project aims to overcome this by developing new genetic material through de novo genome synthesis based on crossing ancestral parental species. The genome will be thoroughly analyzed using cutting-edge molecular biology methods, key functional genes will be identified, and comparisons with current cultivars will be made. Experimental trials will assess drought and heat tolerance, agronomic traits, and oil quality. The project introduces an innovative breeding approach and contributes to sustainable agriculture and food security.

Planned results of the project

Jimp – Genomic characterization of a new oilseed crop using de novo sequencing and bioinformatic analysis

Jimp – Comparative genomic analysis of a new oilseed crop and its parental species

Fuzit – Methodology for using GISH for genotyping new oilseed crops

Jost – Application of synthetic Camelina in the breeding program for common Camelina sativa
